Joint Mobilisation and Manipulation
Mobilisation is a type of passive movement applied to a joint in different grades of pressure, each of which describes the range of movement of the target joint. The aim is to achieve a decrease in pain and reduction in stiffness.
Manipulation is also a manual therapy technique applied to a joint to reduce the pressure and pain, and improve movement. Joint manipulations are effective at reducing scar tisue, relieving muscle spasm and having a physiological effect upon the central nervous system.
Myofascial Release
A soft tissue therapy used to treat dysfunction (tightness, thickening, knots, trigger points) of the tissues (muscles, tendons, fascia) to reduce pain and improve range of motion.
Deep tissue massage works by engaging the myofascial tissue restrictive barrier and applying a constant force with use of fingers, knuckles or elbows until tissue release occurs.
Myofascial Triggerpoint release with Acupuncture helps release tension in the tissues as above particularly effective to the deeper layers that massage cannot reach. It is used to regain normal movement patterns, particularly good for whiplash injuries, pelvis malalignment and sciatica.
Acupuncture
One of the oldest forms of medicine having been used in China for over 4000 years! Research has shown that Acupuncture stimulates the brain to produce natural pain relieving chemicals, endorphins, which help the body to heal itself.
Acupuncture is used by Doctors and Physiotherapists to
- relieve pain (back/neck/arthritis/frozen shoulder etc)
- reduce muscle tension
- stimulate tendon healing
- reduce stress and promote relaxation
Acupuncture is a safe and virtually painfree technique which works well with other treatment modalities to help regain function and return to daily activities.
Electrotherapy
Ultrasound therapy is widely used for inflamed tissue, ligaments and tendons.
Research has shown its benefits by stimulating cell membranes through wave vibration which enhance cell repair and the inflammatory response, therefore increasing recovery rate. A very effective, non-invasive painfree treatment.
Exercise Therapy
Physiotherapy is not just hands-on treatment but also advice regarding activity and exercises to be done at home or in a gym. Exercises primarily focus on addressing individual muscle imbalance and poor posture, stretching tight structures and strengthening weak areas.
Post-operative rehabilitation is essential to regaining strength and function. No matter if you've had surgery on your back or knee, we can advise and prescribe a personalised programme for you.

"Trigger Point - A focus of hyperirrtability in a tissue that, when compressed is locally tender and if sufficiently hypersensitive, gives rise to referred pain and tenderness and sometimes to reffered autonomic phenomena and distortion of proprioception"
